The tool shown below is simply called “The AutoBar” and being offered by Calibre Products Ltd. The AutoBar is essentially a 3-in-1 multi-function tool that you can keep in your vehicle and use as needed.

First, it provides support by adding an extra handle to hold on to when climbing up or getting down your vehicle. This is especially helpful when you have small kids and elderly with you. Shown below is the AutoBar being used in our Suburban. It fits on that “ring” (for lack of a better word) that the door lock latches unto when the door is closed. In our case, you can position the AutoBar as shown on the picture, parallel to the direction that the vehicle is facing, or pointing out, perpendicularly.

In addition to its use as an extra handle, the AutoBar also has 2 other tools for your security: a “hammer” head and a blade cutter. You can see both using the close-up of the product below. What I call a “hammer” head has got a pointed tip so you can use this to strike hard on your vehicle’s window in case of an emergency and you need to get yourself or others out. I can’t test this function on our SUV, of course — as I’ve already shattered the back window once by accident when I backed into our garage, which was costly to replace. However, I can tell you that I believe it can do the trick. I’ve done a few “pretend” strikes in the air, and the AutoBar provided a good grip and it was the right fit for my hand. The blade cutter can be used to cut a seat-belt in an emergency situation when you are not able to unlock the belt. The blade appears to be sharp.

Overall, I’d say keep this as a handy tool for one of your vehicles that you use the most. It fit in the middle console box in our SUV and did not take too much space. Worst-case scenario, it also is a great tool (especially the hammer head) to use for self-defense, if ever the need arises when you are in your vehicle.
