For the “cheaper” side of me that wants to save money and not want to pay extra fees for electricity, having the AGPtek Solar Spotlight (shown below) is a consolation.
This is a small solar light unit, so don’t expect any bulky mail. There will be minimal assembly required, as most everything is already assembled. When you unbox the package, you should find the following contents:
– the main unit with the lights and small solar panel (assembled)
– ground stake
– instructions
Installation is simple and easy. Just connect the ground stake to the main unit. I have lined them up in the photo below so you get an idea of what goes where. Simple, right?
Before putting it out in the yard, make sure you peel off the protective plastic wrap that is over the solar panel.
The unit is adjustable too. Both the light and the solar panel is adjustable. Just turn and twist the knob to loosen up the screws and tighten when you have made your final adjustments.
Now if you are looking for a mega spotlight that can light up the whole house like a football field on a Monday night, then you’re looking at the wrong thing. The AGPtek Solar Spotlight is just a simple (but free) way to accent certain areas of your house and provided that additional security for dark areas in your home at night. It has 4 LED light bulbs to do just that. Here’s a closeup of the light head to give you an idea:
Its rechargeable battery can hold 750 mAH of stored energy. That’s not a lot really, but I hope the wattage on each bulb is low enough to compensate for that. Otherwise, the light won’t last but several hours in the night.
On a ‘High’ setting, the light is usually out by the time I get dressed for work in the morning. The good news is that you can change the light setting to save yourself some battery power and make the device last longer. There’s a button on the back of the solar panel where you can switch between 3 settings: Hi, Lo, and Off.
For being a small unit, I’m actually surprised that it provides a bright output of light. When I come home at night, the projected light is clearly visible. It’s not like a neighbor’s solar lights which look like weak candles from a distance. I put the ground steak about 15 feet away, pointing towards a window. The beam covers the roof of our single story home all the way to the ground. The light is white, not yellow — which I really like. I have included this photo just to give you an idea of the white light coming from the LEDS:
I like this spotlight, and I’m thinking of changing to a battery that can take a bigger charge so the lights can last throughout the night.
Would you like to use this to accent areas in your home or light up a dark area for an added security? If so, the AGPtek Solar Spotlight can be purchased in 2 ways: via Amazon.ca (Canada) and Amazon.com (USA). I even found a 2-pack version, for those that want more than one of them.
