Who would say no at the opportunity to have a light source without paying for electricity? Not me!!! I’m cheap, I know. For the last couple of years now, I’ve been experimenting with various solar lights. I think I’m starting to convince my wife that they are worth the purchase, considering the savings in the end. The OxyLED EO3S Solar Powered Outdoor Spotlight (shown below) is just one of those newer models I’ve tried.
There will be minimal assembly required, as most everything is already assembled. When you unbox the package, you should find the following contents:
– the main unit with the lights and small solar panel (assembled)
– ground stake
– screws for mounting (optional)
– instructions
– warranty card
Installation is simple and easy. Just connect the ground stake to the main unit. I have lined them up in the photo below so you get an idea of what goes where. Simple, right?
Before putting it out in the yard, make sure you peel off the protective plastic wrap that is over the solar panel.
The unit is adjustable too. Both the light and the solar panel is adjustable. Just turn and twist the knob to loosen up the screws and tighten when you have made your final adjustments. The plastic twist knobs are shown below for reference. The advantage of being adjustable is that you can point the light to suit your needs best. With this model, I used it in the backyard to accent and light up the wooded area. We are working on a mini backyard garden too, with an outdoor dining area, so when we are done I just might use this one to accent this section.
I personally prefer to use my solar spotlights on the ground level, pointing upwards. However, if you want to mount this to a higher area so that you can point downwards at a specific location, that is not a problem either. The OxyLED EO3S Solar Powered Spotlight comes with mounting screws. Instead of inserting the ground stake into the unit, just leave that out and then use the screws to mount them to a pole, a wall, the roof, a tree, or other high-level areas. I have included the photo below so you can see where the screws would go.
Now if you are looking for a mega spotlight that can light up the whole house like a football field on a Monday night, then you’re looking at the wrong thing. The OxyLED EO3S Solar Powered Outdoor Spotlight is just a simple (but free) way to accent certain areas of your house and provided that additional security for dark areas in your home at night. It has 4 LED light bulbs to do just that.
Ours last about 5 hours or so on “High” setting. However, the area it’s located on is close to the woods, so it is only able to harness the power of the sun for part of the day when the area gets direct sunlight. I’m guessing it would last longer if the solar panel was “soaked” in the sun for most of the day.
The good news is that you can change the light setting to save yourself some battery power and make the device last longer. There’s a button on the back of the solar panel where you can switch between 3 settings: Hi, Low, and Off.
As small as it is, the unit projects a bright light, surprisingly. I like it too because it’s in the white spectrum, instead of a yellow light. There are others in our neighborhood who are using solar lights, but they mostly look like little dim candles in the night compared to this one. I have included this photo just to give you an idea of the white light coming from the LEDS:
I like this spotlight, and I’m thinking of changing to a battery that can take a bigger charge so the lights can last throughout the night.
Would you like to use this to accent areas in your home or light up a dark area for an added security? If so, the OxyLED E03S LED Solar Spotlight can be purchased at Amazon at a 50 percent discount at the time of this writing.
Suggested uses, just to give you an idea:
- point it at a window – this helps with security and deters others from attempting to break inside through a window when their actions are visible from the street.
- point it at a specific spot on your garden, such as a small tree or a precious — to show it off at night
- point it at dark areas of the house, beyond the reach of the outdoor lights — helps deter others from hiding in the darkness
