Initially, I was going to give a full thumbs down on this Estilo Round Brushed Stainless Steel Step Trash Can 12 Liter 3.17 Gallon Capacity, but decided to give it a second chance.
The reason why I was going to give it a full thumbs down was because I had trouble getting the lid to open when I took the trash can out of the package, so the trash can was pretty much useless at that point. Frustrated after several tries and thinking that I received a defective item, I left it in the corner for several days, thinking about my options, as well as attempting contact with manufacturer for any available replacement (I only received 1 reply from the promoter, and that was to confirm the size of the trash can. I did not hear back since then).
Disappointed at the lack of further response, I decided to give it another tug. With some shaking, repositioning, and pulling here and there, it gave way and I was finally able to open the lid. I did not have any further problems with the lid getting stuck after that, and I was able to open and close the lid using the step on the bottom without problem. My only best guess is that, perhaps, movements during the shipping process caused the tub inside to not line up properly, jamming part of the lid, and thus preventing the lid from opening accordingly.
After I was able to open up the lid, I was able to get a better idea of the size of this trash can. It is definitely bigger than the existing 2 that we currently use in our bathrooms. I have pulled out the black tub inside to give you an idea. The tub has a handle for ease of use.
With the tub/canister inside removed, below is what the trash can looks like from the inside. As you can see, the bottom is open to the floor. With this photo, you can also see the steel component that goes from one end of the can to the other. One end is connected to the stepping part outside; the other end connects to another part the causes the lid to go up or down.
This photo shows the part that connects to the lid, causing the lid to open or close:
This photo shows how the part on the steel that you saw on the inside is positioned to allow movement when the step is depressed. The whole setup is just a simple mechanism really, when you think about it.
There is also another handle on the back of the lid of the trash container (seen below), making it easier to move the trash can from one area of the house to another if needed.
I like that this has a large storage capacity, and so I have no complaints as far as trash space is concerned.
My only main concern at this time is if the step can handle repeated use. I think it’s made of aluminum… it appears like it could bend easily, and I wish it was more reinforced or thicker. The lid is quite heavy (compared to what I think the step can handle). The trash can is taller and wider. These factors add weight and distance, affecting the torque/force… and I’m not confident that the step, as thin as it is now, can handle repeated long-term use.
Wish me luck!
Anyway, if you are looking for a trash can with a decent size, you can find this 12L / 3.17 Gallon Capacity Stainless Steel Step Trash on Amazon.com.
