Got no rhythm like me? If you’ve been a little timid or embarrassed to go with your partner to an actual studio, then here’s a nice little at-home learning solution for you! SalsaCrazy.com has made available a DVD for beginners called “Learn to Dance Salsa, Volume 1, Beginners Basic Dance Techniques.” It is currently available at Amazon for a sale price of $14.95 (originally $39.95)
The DVD contains hours of great features, such as:
– being able to select a particular scene — in case you need to review a specific part of the tutorial
– a section to learn about dancing etiquette
– a section to learn about the history of Salsa
– even includes an “Outtakes” section!
The instructor starts you right out with the basic steps/techniques for both the leader and the follower. He gives you a lesson in the perspective of the leader, and another lesson in the perspective of the follower. The two is then combined so you can see the ultimate result. The lesson starts with nothing fancy — just what you exactly need to know in words you can understand. The lesson is really geared towards someone who’s never done Salsa before. It’s step by step, section by section, and is in no hurry to go to all the complexities at once.
One benefit of having a DVD salsa dance lesson is that you can start and pause at any time in the lesson, especially when you want to review a step or if you want to hear what the instructor said again. This SalsaCrazy DVD lesson includes an additional feature other than using the typical start/pause button by adding the benefit of having a Picture-in-Picture (PIP) feature. While you see the instructor on the bigger screen, a smaller screen on the side gives you a close-up of the footwork involved. It’s really helpful, since it gives you a better view of what he’s saying and what your feet/legs is supposed to be doing.
Overall, this is a good DVD lesson. From what I can see, SalsaCrazy offers a series of lessons from basic all the way to advanced/master level. If you’ve never danced the Salsa before and want to learn what it takes to do it, start with this: “Learn to Dance Salsa, Volume 1, Beginners Basic Dance Techniques by SalsaCrazy.”
Enjoy!
